G-Funk Era Revisited

Hi, I’m Matt Sullivan. This here blog seemed like a good excuse to talk about myself, so it’s about the most semi-interesting thing I do – occasionally tour in bands. Right now I’m on the Conquest of the West tour with the Protomen. Technically, the tour doesn’t kick off until this Friday, but this is already the second day of travel. The Protomen are nothing if not a logistical nightmare. Lance lives in LA. We live in Nashville, so we haven’t even seen him since our last tour ended in April. The plan is to get to Los Angeles some time tomorrow, rehearse a few hours on Thursday, then the tour starts in earnest on Friday in San Diego.

Each of us are going to lose the entirety of July 24th, 2007 to the Protobus. I woke up this morning in a moving vehicle, and I’ll fall asleep later tonight in that same vehicle. It’s weird. We left late Monday and, as of me typing this at 1:30pm on Tuesday, we’ve only made it as far as Amarillo, TX, the boviniest smelling place on God’s green Earth. We spent a long time in Memphis, and Wayne’s parents fed us pizza. Cal accidentally blurted out “shit dicks” in front of Wayne’s grandparents without thinking. Cal’s the kind of person whose kneejerk curse is “shit dicks.” Cal also offered me a wager. For as long as I’ve known him (6ish years) Cal hasn’t drank a drop of alcohol. I don’t think that he has since high school. He told me that he would drink a six pack if I ate a rack of ribs. I haven’t eaten meat in nearly four years. We’d both be guaranteed to puke, and it would be hilarious. We both have a lot to lose, though.

Right now everyone’s in a good mood and everyone’s funny, which will maybe last four days, tops. These entries will eventually get more interesting; I swear.
